There are four different types of follower in the game Carcassonne:
- The normal follower is the most basic level of follower, and the standard follower in the game. The normal follower can be placed as a knight, monk, thief or farmer.
- The big follower can be placed as a knight, monk, thief or farmer. The big follower counts as two followers.
- The wagon can be placed as a knight, monk or thief. When the feature is completed, the wagon may be immediately moved to another feature connected to it by road, providing the new feature is not completed and does not have a follower on it.
- The mayor can only be placed as a knight. It counts as one follower for each pennant in the city. If a player only has a mayor in a city with no pennants, he does not score any points.
